Sermon:  “Stop Living as ‘Formless Voids'”

Theme: We need the light of Christ to open our hearts to a transforming Word from the Holy Spirit to move us from our stasis and fear.

Purpose: We will renounce the evil of attachment to our past.

Scriptures: Genesis 1:1-5  God said, “Let there be light”

Mark 1:4-11    Jesus is baptized, and the Holy Spirit descends upon him as God Says, “You are my son, the Beloved; with you I am well pleased.”

Questions: What does it mean to us that the beginning was a chaos of “formless void?” In what ways does our attachment to what has past, and our fear of the future cause us to be formless and hopeless? What is the power of the Holy Spirit to cause us to see ourselves differently? How do we move from perceiving ourselves in the darkness of a formless and meaningless life to experiencing God’s blessing of calling us “beloved?” What do we need to do in order perceive God’s love and blessing for us?
