Sermon: “Choosing to Be Faithful with what God Gives to Us”

Theme: We will understand that we are empowered by God to use our gifts as we have ability rather than to be paralyzed by our fears.

Purpose: We will learn to focus on what we can do rather than to be fearful of our limitations.

Scriptures: 1 Thessalonians 5:1-11 We are not people of darkness but of light. Be sober, and put on the breastplate of faith and love and the helmet of the hope of salvation.

Matthew 25:14-30 The parable of the talents.

Questions:
What does the “Parable of the Talents” mean to us today? Why does it bother us so much that the slave who played it safe ends up being judged? What does this tell us about our service and gifts of ministry? How do we know whether we are being wise or foolish in how we use our gifts? Is this about money or about something more? What does the Apostle Paul mean by the “day of the Lord coming like a thief in the night?” Does this mean the whole story that people tell of the rapture or is this something more connected to our lives? What are the moments when we are caught unprepared for trials and challenge that come into our lives?
